NIPOD FAQ

Will the new niPOD software v2.1+ work with the old hardware niPOD v1.0?
The new software v2.0 will work with the old hardware. Impedance and Activation functions should work as expected. It is recommended that you use the new software as it has a number of bug fixes, calibration and high frequency response improvements that were not present in the older versions of the software. 

 In general, the new software is backward compatible, but some features such as CV will not work correctly due the hardware/firmware changes in v2.0. Please contact us if you wish to upgrade 

What are the new updated features in the niPOD software v2.1+? 

Improved calibration, improved high frequency response (above 3K), CV data export, international language compatibility, auto gain control features.  Download latest version (v2.1 onwards).

Where are some of the features listed in the niPOD literature, such lesioning?
In order to provide the best user experience, we would like to fully test each features before releasing it to the users.  If you are willing to experiment with the beta code and could provide feedback, please contact us and we may enable some of the features ahead of time for you. 
 
What is the difference between "Simultaneous" and "Sequential" measurement mode?
Simultaneous mode can provide a very quick measurement across all electrode sites.  However, such operation does have a reduced accuracy (up to +/- 20%) and will be UNABLE to detect any shorted electrode sites (A shorted site will appear to have the same impedance as an unshorted site due to internal circuit design of the niPOD).   It is recommended that the "Sequential" measurement be done with each probe, at least for the first time a probe is used with niPOD. Activation and CV functions operate only in sequential mode.
 
What do I do with the Gain Settings?
As long as you can visually make out the waveforms on the niPOD Digital O-Scope  as regular sine waves, one should not be concerned about the gain levels.  Setting the gain too high might cause the input to rail at the analog to digital converter (ADC range is 0 - 2V), which will result in inaccurate results.  In addition to the GUI setting, you may also modify the gain configuration file, Gain.ini, located at c:\niPOD to set gain levels for different frequencies (to implement this, leave the gain checkboxes unchecked on the GUI).
 
Is the NIPOD compatible for  operation worldwide?
Yes. The niPOD (v2.0+) now supports different keyboards and language layouts. You no longer need to change the language settings to US-English. See note on power supply below. 

What is the specification of the power supply compatible with niPOD?
The niPOD uses a 6V AC supply rated up to 2A of current.  Note that most of power supplies found in electronic shops are DC supplies and are NOT compatible to be used with niPOD. We provide a special adaptor for European (230V, 50Hz) power supply. Please contact our sales department if you wish to purchase this in lieu of our standard North American adaptor.
